Cotuit Center for the Arts invites young artists to get their hands dirty and imaginations soaring in our Summer Clay series! With two unique programs designed for different age groups, kids will explore the joy of clay through hands-on learning in a supportive and inspiring studio environment.
Adventures in Handbuilding (Ages 7–10)
Let your child’s imagination run wild! From whimsical fairy houses to woodland creatures and pinch-pot bowls, this magical handbuilding workshop teaches foundational ceramic techniques—no pottery wheel required!
Kids will learn:

Pinching, coiling, and slab building

How to glaze and finish pieces
-
The full ceramic firing process
Perfect for younger kids who love sculpting, storytelling, and getting creative with their hands.

Learn to Throw (Ages 10–15)
For older kids who want to try the wheel! In this exciting and educational program, students learn to throw on a pottery wheel with guidance from our experienced instructors.
Each 5-day session includes:

Centering, throwing, trimming, and decorating

Glazing and firing techniques

12.5 hours of hands-on studio time
Ideal for beginners or kids with some clay experience—and anyone who wants to get creative while spinning the wheel!
