A Major Regional Exhibit Curated by Margaret Van Sciver

Cotuit, MA: On August 4, 2018, Cotuit Center for the Arts will present a highly anticipated regional art exhibit featuring the works of forty-two well known Cape Cod artists depicting the human form. The show will be open from August 4 to September 2, on Mondays - Sundays from 10 am - 4 pm. The exhibit is FREE and open-to-the-public. The entire first and second floor galleries of Cotuit Center for the Arts will be devoted to this major exhibit.

“Artists have been commemorating the human body in paintings and sculpture since prehistory. In recent years, museums, galleries, and individual artists have faced heightened scrutiny when displaying nude figurative work. In the context of our current sociopolitical climate, this exhibit serves as a timely and provocative exploration of dozens of contemporary artists’ visual representations of nude bodies,” noted Curator Van Sciver.

“Our curatorial committee was thrilled when Maggie accepted our invitation to guest curate her sixth major show in our gallery,” said Cotuit Center for the Arts Executive Director David Kuehn, “She has an established reputation for selecting exceptional works from preeminent artists. Her exhibits always exceed our highest expectations.”

A wide range of materials will be represented in the exhibit including: oils, pastels, acrylics, encaustics, watercolors, charcoal, photography, bronze, copper, steel, aluminum, plaster, wood, and much more.

“Every canvas and sculpture on display reflects an artist’s gaze upon their subject. Viewers will inevitably interpret each of these representations through their own personal lens. By incorporating pieces created by artists of all genders utilizing a variety of media, each observer is encouraged to evaluate their own relationship with the artwork,” explained Van Sciver.

WHEN: Saturday, August 4 to Sunday, September 2, Daily from 10 am to 4 pm. The exhibit may also be viewed during evening performances. Opening reception: Friday, August 3 from 5pm - 8pm.

COST: The exhibit and reception are FREE and open-to-the-public. No advance registration is required.
