Press Release: 2nd Wednesday Theater Presents “Survivor to Thriver” at Cotuit Center for the Arts

Cotuit Center for the Arts’ 2nd Wednesday Theater presents a staged reading of “Survivor to Thriver,” by Meredith Baier on Wednesday, May 8, at 7:30 PM on the main stage. Admission is free.

Conceived to bring awareness to the issue of human trafficking throughout the U.S. and the Cape Cod region, “Survivor to Thriver” is the final product of a 2016 Smith College Magic Grant. Baier collected oral histories of women who had been trafficked in the United States and turned those narratives into a staged reading.

She describes “Survivor to Thriver” as a “docu-theater piece which brings to the stage narratives of women who have been sex- and/or labor-trafficked within the U.S. and the Cape Cod region. It gives voice to women who have been traditionally silenced, allowing their lived experiences to enlighten, educate, and empower audience members.”

Meridith Baier directs. She was trained and worked professionally as an actor/singer in the Washington D.C., San Francisco, and Chicago regions and worked extensively with theatrical designers Helen Pond and Herbert Senn as an artisan for Boston Ballet and Opera New England productions.

Second Wednesday Theater is a monthly play-reading series of rarely performed classics, undiscovered gems, old chestnuts, and exciting new works. Admission is free, and wine is available for $5 a glass.
