Press Release: A December to Remember with Monica Rizzio, Danielle Miraglia, and Lisa Bastoni at Cotuit Center for the Arts

Cotuit Center for the Arts presents "A December to Remember" with singers Monica Rizzio, Danielle Miraglia, and Lisa Bastoni on Tuesday, December 11, at 7:30 PM.

Monica Rizzio has given unique holiday concerts across Cape Cod for the past six years. This year she returns to the Cotuit Center for the Arts where she started this tradition in 2013. This time, she brings with her two powerhouse singers: Danielle Miraglia from Boston and Lisa Bastoni from Northampton for a “December to Remember.”

Monica Rizzio’s autobiographical album, “Washashore Cowgirl” tells the story of her journey from a barrel-racing young girl on ranch in East Texas to a sought-after singer-songwriter on Cape Cod. The album was nominated for Country Album of the Year by Independent Music Awards and has received many accolades, including this from Raul Malo of the Mavericks: “Monica paints a picture and tells a story with her music. And not only is she a great musician, but it’s her voice that really draws you in and keeps you there.”

Rizzio has shared the stage with Chris Botti, Boz Skaggs, Diana Krall, Joan Osborne, Hayes Carll, Hunter Hayes, Brett Eldredge, and others. When she performed with Tom Rush, he noted, “I made the tactical error of inviting Monica Rizzio to share the stage with me at Symphony Hall and she went and stole the audience right out from under me!”

Rizzio has also played the main stage at The Red Ants Pants Festival in Montana with Lucinda Williams, Jeffrey Foucault, and the Turnpike Troubadours and is a frequent collaborator with the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra.

Danielle Miraglia is known for her “intoxicating brand of hot bluesy music, built on an underpinning of scorching guitar riffs….From her opening song, she lights up the darkness and explodes like a tsunami roaring across the open waters of the ocean.” (Nashua Telegraph)

Influenced by The Rolling Stones, Prince, Janis Joplin, and others, Miraglia explores human nature at its best and worst. Her latest album, "All My Heroes Are Ghosts," with her band Danielle M and The Glory Junkies, touches on current issues, from the loss of so many musical heroes on the title track, to collective anxieties on “All On Fire.”

The Boston Globe wrote, “Straddling the line where folk/roots meets rock/blues, Miraglia has a voice that can go from a raspy come-hither purr to an Etta James-esque powerhouse belt, although she may be best known for her lead thumb — a heavy, thumping strike on her Gibson that’s backdrop percussion in itself."

Danielle M and The Glory Junkies are nominated for a 2018 Boston Music Award for "Blues Artist of the Year.”

Lisa Bastoni’s latest album, “The Wishing Hour” (2017), debuted as the #1 most played album on Boston's WUMB. In the past year, she was showcased at the New England Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) conference and at the Falcon Ridge and New Song Music/LEAF festivals. Her song "Rabbit Hole," from that album, earned grand prize at the Great American Song Contest.

Bastoni has opened for artists such as Lori McKenna, The Low Anthem, Regina Spektor, and Arlo Guthrie. She has been described as "Americana of the highest order...along the lines of Gretchen Peters or Patty Griffin."
