Press Release: Bruce Marshall Group at Cotuit Center for the Arts

The Bruce Marshall Group returns to Cotuit Center for the Arts on Saturday, January 19, at 7:30 PM.

The Bruce Marshall Group has a well-deserved reputation for their stellar live shows, treating their fans to a soaring ride as they rip through a rich catalog of original material that sets this band apart. The band slips seamlessly through blues, R&B, country blues, and Southern boogie.

“We love to mix it up,” said Marshall, “building an upbeat sound with dynamics and layering, or playing concise arrangements of our songs with discipline and taste.”

The interplay between Marshall and his longtime guitarist Dave Cournoyer is the heart and soul of the band’s performances. They work together like a well-oiled machine, with their double leads, “tradin’ licks,” and bringing the jam side of the band to the forefront.

The Group is anchored by the rock-solid rhythm section of Pete Premo on drums and Glen DiTomasso on five-string bass. Premo has over 15 years and two records with the Group; DiTomasso joined in 2014. “Whether it’s the swing blues the Group is known for, or driving rock grooves, they are ‘locked in,” said Marshall.

Steve Roberge rounds out the five-piece band on tenor sax, harmonica, and vocals. Roberge plays sax with Luther “Guitar Junior” Johnson and is in demand on both sax and harmonica. “His sax work is melodic and gritty and his harp is a standout in the blues numbers,” said Marshall. “He’s a multitalented force to be reckoned with.”

The first set will be acoustic, with Bruce and David Cournoyer performing their duo magic on acoustic guitar and dobro. Sally Marshall Griffin will be guesting on some songs, reuniting the mid-nineties Bruce Marshall Group lineup. Expect much of the set to be deep cuts not normally heard in the electric set. After a brief intermission, the full 5 piece electric ensemble takes the stage for the duration.

The Bruce Marshall Group has been performing and recording since 1990 and has shared the stage with over 200 national acts, bringing their unique sound to audiences throughout New England and beyond.

Marshall was on the road for most of the 1980s with Bruce Marshall and the Clue, a popular Boston band. In 1989, he joined forces with Toy Caldwell of the Marshall Tucker Band, and they toured the US in support of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels, and the Outlaws. In the 1990s, Marshall formed a duo with his old friend and bluesman James Montgomery and they have performed together for over 20 years.
