Heroes and villains play a major role in the lives of young people. But too often they come in the form of stereotypical comic and movie characters. Heroes and villains actually come in many different forms, from a favorite teacher to Mother Nature; from world dictators to ocean polluters.
In this new exhibit, local artists will give our young audience their interpretation of heroes and villains through their artwork. Keeping younger art patrons in mind, artwork for the show will be displayed at a height of 4 feet throughout the exhibit – right at children’s eye level.
During the exhibition, which runs until February 8, participating artists will drop in to discuss their works with students as they take a guided tour of the exhibit. The visit to Heroes and Villains is accompanied by a hands-on workshop in the Art Studio, where students will create their own piece inspired by the exhibition.
The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod is providing grants of up to $250 to help Barnstable County schools serving K-12 with the transportation costs of student cultural field trips such as the Winter Art Exhibit. Groups interested in visiting the exhibition should contact Michelle Law, Gallery Manager at michelle@cotuitcenterforthearts.org
This is a wonderful opportunity for art enthusiasts young in age and young at heart to explore the different sides of the heroes and villains in our world.
Children and families are encouraged to attend the Opening Reception from 5-7pm on Saturday January 11.
Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
