Jul. 2, 2019 / Press ReleaseIt’s time to party! Cotuit Center for the Arts invites you to a multi-sensory tribute to the iconic Cape Cape Cod establishment – Joe’s Twin Villa – featuring renowned local artist Joe Diggs.
This visual, musical, and culinary celebration will bring back memories of wonderful times at this popular landmark.
What: Joe Diggs: A Tribute to Joe’s Twin Villa
When: Saturday, August 3, 2019
2:00 pm -11:00 pm
Free Admission
For those of you unfamiliar with Joe’s Twin Villa, the Osterville hotspot was owned and operated by generations of Joe Diggs’ family (it was named after his grandfather). Although it is now closed, it will long be remembered by its many Cape regulars for its down-home atmosphere, food, drink, and music.
On August 3rd, you can enjoy the spirit of this Cape landmark through a great lineup of bands, singers, dancing and food highlighted by Joe’s exciting artwork. In powerful mixed media works that combine action painting, photography, graffiti and collage, Diggs’ art explores what it means to be a black man in America. “To me painting is magic,” he writes on his website. “Images appear out of nothing, blobs of color transform themselves to a new meaning”.
Joe will emcee a great lineup of musical guests from around the Cape that will get you on your feet! And don’t worry about dinner, because great food and beverages will be available for purchase.
The Upper Gallery will feature a juried exhibition, ‘Proud 2 Be American’, presenting the works of local artists as selected by jurors Joe Diggs and Maura Williams, Curator of the Brattleboro Museum, Battleboro, VT.
Both exhibits run through September 2nd.
Cotuit Center for the Arts is at 4404 Route 28 in Cotuit. For more information, visit www.artsonthecape.org or call 508-428-0669.
