Press Release: “Ryan Casey: Short and Suite” at Cotuit Center for the Arts

Ryan P. Casey, named a 2018 Finalist in Choreography by the Massachusetts Cultural Council returns to Cotuit Center for the Arts with an evening of both new and repertory pieces never before presented at the center. “Ryan Casey, Short & Suite” takes place on Saturday, September 8, at 7:30 PM.

The nationally recognized tap dancer and his merry band of rhythm makers bring their signature blend of humor, storytelling, and infectious percussion to the stage, and will stomp, slide, and shuffle their way through an eclectic variety of music while embodying various characters. The result will leave no doubts as to why the Boston Globe called Casey "surprisingly fleet, technically assured, and whimsically inventive."

Featured on the cover of the January 2015 issue of Dance Magazine as one of 25 artists to watch, Casey has been praised for his “rocketing rhythms and stylish moves,” his “freakishly clean footwork, with shaded in-the-pocket rhythms reminiscent of Fred Astaire,” and his thoughtful, comical, and satirical approach to performance.

At 6’8”, Casey towers over his dance partners, but once he starts to move, noted Dance Magazine, “you forget about his frame and focus on his shocking talent.”

Inspired by tap dancer Savion Glover, Casey began dancing at an early age. He was drawn to tap by the rhythms. “What is enticing about it is that you are making music and dance at the same time,” he said. “I’m drawn to the percussive elements of the art form.”
