Press Release: Suede Holiday Concert Extravaganza at Cotuit Center for the Arts
Nov. 22, 2019 / Press ReleaseBy popular demand Cotuit Center for the Arts brings back “Suede’s Holiday Show Ho-HO” with internationally acclaimed pop/jazz/blues artist Suede on Thursday, December 12, at 7:30 PM.
Formerly Joan Rivers’ opening act, and headliner with Melissa Etheridge and Sarah McLachlan, Suede comes direct from her own sold-out shows at world-renowned clubs like New York’s famous Birdland and Boston’s Scullers Jazz Club, as well as multiple national and international tours.
Seen nationally on PBS in “Suede LIVE at Scullers Jazz Club,” Suede returns to Cotuit Center for the Arts for one night only. The long-time Cape Cod favorite will bring her New England trio of Freddie Boyle on piano, Rich Hill on bass, and Steve Langone on drums.
New York press says Suede is “like Adele meets Diana Krall meets Bette Midler—sassy, smooth, and intoxicating,” exclaiming that she delivers “a spectacular evening of song and style. Voices like hers come along maybe once in a generation.” The Boston Globe calls her “Wicked exciting,” and Steppin’ Out Arts, NY, wrote "A great voice, even better enthusiasm, almost giddy delight at entertaining audiences, that if bottled would make every anti-depressant on the market obsolete."
A native of New York, Suede has lived on the Cape for over 20 years. She knew early on that she wanted to be a professional touring musician and began performing in public while still in high school. She began her formal music training in college, studying classical voice and trumpet. She was soon playing local clubs in the Baltimore/DC/Philadelphia corridor and then touring nationally and internationally, eventually performing sold-out shows all across the country. As Joan Rivers’ opening act, Suede commanded multiple standing ovations from Joan’s fans, mid-song.
Suede plays piano, trumpet and guitar, but voice is her first instrument and her powerful charismatic presence and love of entertaining are what truly make her stand out. She sings everything from originals written for her by a circle of talented contemporary writers to intimate ballads, jazz standards, and “bring-down-the-house” belted-out blues—all with her own signature blend of warmth, wit, and musical artistry.
Tickets are $45, $35 for balcony seating. There is a $5 discount for members and a $2 discount for seniors and veterans, and $25 for members. For tickets, and more information, visit www.artsonthecape.org, or call 508-428-0669. Cotuit Center for the Arts is at 4404 Route 28 in Cotuit.
