The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon on the Outdoor Stage

Center for the Arts presents The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon by playwright Dan Zolidis, July 11 through 20 on the outdoor stage. Performances are Sundays at 4pm and 7:30pm, and Mondays and Tuesdays at 7:30pm.

The play is presented by the WatermelonAlligator Theatre Company. The group produced the critically acclaimed Church and State last season just before the pandemic closure, as well as several Black Box productions in 2018–2019.

Happy ever after was never like this! The fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm are turned on their heads as actors from the WatermelonAlligator Theatre Company attempt to combine all 209 stories into one spectacular yarn! This fast-paced, rollicking tale romps through classics like Snow White and Cinderella (as well as more obscure stories like The Devil's Grandmother) from “Once upon a time” all the way to “happily ever after”…we hope! This wild, free-form comedy, with madcap fun and lots of audience participation, will run just over one hour on Cotuit’s outdoor stage. Every performance also features an opportunity to meet and mingle with the actors after the show!

“This is different from our usual Black Box shows,” admits Garrett Olson, Assistant Artistic Director of WatermelonAlligator. Jess Wilson, Artistic Director, agrees. “We’ve done mainly serious dramas here at Cotuit in the past. After the past year, though, we decided that everyone really needs something lighthearted and fun, where the whole family can laugh, have a good time, and just enjoy live theatre again.” “Intermission is over,” adds Olson, “and we can’t wait to welcome audiences back!”

The cast of The Brother Grimm Spectaculathon includes actors familiar to Cape audiences: Thomas Crutchfield of Hyannis (most recently seen as Albert Blossom in Dr Dolittle), Tony Ferreira of Swansea (most recently seen as Leonard in Seminar), Garrett Olson of Pembroke (most recently seen as Sen. Charles Whitmore in Church & State), Susan Salvesen of Marion (most recently seen as Gail in Lopsided), Victoria Smith of Falmouth (most recently seen as Megan in Lopsided), and Jess Wilson of Onset (most recently seen as Alex in Church & State).

The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon is a family-friendly production appropriate for ages 8 – 118!
