Press Release: Twisted Pine at Cotuit Center for the Arts

Cotuit Center for the Arts presents the acclaimed string band Twisted Pine Saturday, June 1, at 7:30 PM.

“Twisted Pine is now seen as one of the most innovative and consistently thrilling musical groups in New England, if not the entire country,” according to Wicked Local. Praised by NPR for their “upbeat, poppy vibe; energetic, driving rhythms" and "virtuosic solos,” Twisted Pine is known for its forthright songwriting, lush harmonies, musical daring, and charismatic appeal.

Steeped in traditional bluegrass music, Twisted Pine has developed its own infectious style. The band members are fearless improvisers and passionate lovers of pop. They have developed an infectious, multilayered style, bringing the enveloping sound and pop hooks of indie music to an acoustic instrumental setting.

Fiddler and lead vocalist Kathleen Parks is known for taking risks on her instrument, seeking out exciting new musical territories. Mandolinist Dan Bui is a master of melody and drive, praised for his

dexterous picking. And bassist Chris Sartori adds creative, funk-inflected cadences that never overwhelm the beat.

“Dreams,” Twisted Pine’s seven-song EP released in 2018, was described as “full of spark, light, and irresistible force... and wildly innovative covers" by PopMatters. NPR’s Heavy Rotation wrote that the first track, “Hold on Me,” “displays everything that is wonderful about Twisted Pine: an upbeat, poppy vibe; energetic, driving rhythms; virtuosic solos; tight harmonies. This is definitely a band to watch!"

Twisted Pine was the winner of the 2018 Boston Music Award’s American Artist of the Year and was selected as one of Improper Bostonian’s 2018 “Top 10 Local Acts on the Rise.” The band has played major events, including Grey Fox, DelFest, Glasgow’s Celtic Connections, and more. The Boston Globe called them “a wider version of string band, boundary jumpers akin to outfits like Punch Brothers, Nickel Creek, and Crooked Still.” And legendary fiddler Darol Anger said, “They absolutely rule their musical world with humor and relish.”

Tickets are $25, $20 for balcony seats. Student tickets are available for $10. There is a $2 discount for seniors and veterans, and a $5 discount for members.
