Weekend Relief Sculpting Workshop at Cotuit Center for the Arts with Award-Winning Baltimore Artist
May. 17, 2018 / Press ReleaseCotuit Center for the Arts presents a weekend workshop in Relief Sculpting with award-winning sculptor Alison Belt Saturday and Sunday, June 16 and 17, as part of its 2018 Atelier Series.
This workshop for adults is designed to teach beginner and intermediate students the foundations of making a relief sculpture. All materials are provided. Students are asked to bring a picture of what they would like to create in clay and the desire to learn.
Belt will demonstrate how to make both portrait and botanical specimen relief sculptures.
“Relief sculpture is a great way to create art that can fit easily onto a wall in a home or gallery,” said Belt. “The method I use will allow you to create relief sculptures of a wide range of subjects from portraits to botanicals and beyond. At each stage of the process, you’ll watch demonstrations and receive instructions before trying it yourself.”
Clay, stands, and tools are all provided in this relaxed and fun class, but students are welcome to bring their own tools if they have them. Students should also bring snacks and a brown bag lunch.
Based in Baltimore, Belt was a finalist in the 2017 National Sculpture Society Annual Awards Exhibition. She sculpts in both relief and in the round and has a fondness for portraiture. Belt attended the Schuler School of Fine Arts and has studied under sculptors Tylden Streett, Francesca Schuler Guerlin, and Barry Johnston.
The fee for the workshop is $200, $170 for members, plus a $25 materials fee.
This year the Cotuit Center for the Arts launched its Atelier Series, a year-long series of workshops that brings in talented artists, both local and national, to provide intensive instruction in one- to five-day workshops at its campus.
