Class Description
In this five-session class, students will learn the foundations of portrait drawing and build the skills needed to create a cohesive finished portrait. We’ll begin by studying the structure of the head, learning how to approach different angles and proportions with confidence. From there, we’ll focus on individual facial features, explore how to capture expressions, and develop an understanding of light, shadow, and value to bring portraits to life.
The course emphasizes pencil drawing as the primary medium, making it an excellent foundation for sketching or preparing studies that can later be developed in paint, ink, or other materials. Some prior drawing experience is recommended, but students of all levels who are eager to strengthen their portrait skills are welcome.
