Over 6 weeks you will learn basic or intermediate jewelry making skills through hands on projects. You will explore techniques like soldering, sawing, forging, stone setting and polishing.
Create stunning stacking rings, bangles and necklace pendants while developing your craftsmanship in a supportive environment. Whether you’re starting your journey or looking to enhance your skills this class is perfect for you!
Beginner:
Over 6 consecutive Thursdays, students will create stacking rings and bangles. All supplies and tools are included, and there is a lab fee for the metals used in class, payable in cash or check to the instructors at the first class (will vary depending on ring and bangle size) — around $30. In this hands-on metalsmithing class, students will explore basic essential techniques for working with metal, including soldering, sawing, filing, forming, and polishing. Through a series of guided projects, students will gain foundational skills while creating pieces such as stacking rings, earrings and bangles.
Students will be working with a micro torch, jeweler’s saw, and various hand tools. (this is the same for both levels)
Please wear close-toed shoes and tie your hair back.
Intermediate:
Students will prep the components required for the fabrication of their project, explore ways to add texture to their design, complete soldering phase of their ring or pendant and learn how to properly clean and sand their piece, and set stones and complete the final polishing phase of their jewelry project. The intermediate students will focus on different stone setting techniques, an important skill for elevating your jewelry designs. Each student can create a ring or pendant and will be guided through the process of setting stones in a variety of settings. Bezel, tube or prong settings. This is a great opportunity to bring your jewelry making techniques to the next level.
Students are welcome to bring their own materials, stones, and metals to class if they have them.
Cost for silver: $20-$50 depending on the project
To be paid to instructor by cash, check, or venmo.
