Class Description
This is a chance to learn the skills of watercolor painting while soaking in the beautiful surroundings of Cape Cod. Doris Rice, experienced plein air (outdoor) watercolorist, will guide you to a full painting experience. Learn the steps to success!
The 3-day workshop will take you on location, supplies in hand, and give you guidance in composition, use of the medium, instruction in drawing as well as value and color. Each day you will compete a work of art, getting the confidence to make selections for suitable subjects to create good works of art! Evaluations daily will give you an idea of how to bring the work to completion.
We’ll gather at the Center on the first day and have a basic introduction then move along to the painting location. We will be working outside on location for the day, as long as it is clement. Inside the Schoolhouse classroom at the Center if windy or rainy.
Location is selected by the weather of the day, be it very sunny, a bit windy, overcast…..we’ll plan accordingly. Bring a bag lunch.

About Doris:
Doris Rice's studio is the great outdoors. Painting on location is her inspiration, staying in the moment to capture the world around her." It is an exciting challenge every time I paint," Doris says. "It brings me into the moment."
She is a graduate of Moore College of Art in Philadelphia. The years after her degree were spent in Philly and New York as an illustrator for advertising and publishing. In 1979, Doris moved to North Hampton, NH, changing her focus to plein air painting. Her love of travel began as she studied with various master plein air painters, developing her signature painting style. She discovered the excitement of bringing others to the joy of creating, starting her teaching career.
