The Off Beat Tap Company Presents Mother Tongue

Off Beat Tap Company combines the rhythms of tap dance with the rhythms of female vocalists from around the world in their native languages.

The universal language of rhythm is joined by other languages from around the world in this new show, “Mother Tongue,” conceived by “whimsically inventive” (The Boston Globe) tap dancer Ryan P. Casey. Prepare for a rich soundscape of fancy footwork and intricate melodies, featuring songs by female artists in French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Czech, Korean, and other tongues. From jazz standards to K-pop, the diverse soundtrack will remind you why dance is joy – no matter what language you speak.

Off Beat was founded by performer, educator, choreographer, and dance writer Ryan P. Casey, featuring New England-based tap dancers Kelly Kaleta and Nicole Holloway. The troupe collaborates on everything from costuming to choreography, centering joy and rhythm in their work. They have presented pieces with the Inside/Out series at Jacob’s Pillow, Dance for World Community, Salem Arts Festival, and many other venues throughout the Northeast.

Ryan and Kelly will be leading a Tap Workshop Sunday, April 13 from 11am-12pm on the Main Stage for all dancers interested, register early!
