The Art Studio is the second building on the CCftA campus on the right. It is a one story building between the Main Stage and Sigel Black Box Theaters. Parking is available in front of the building and across the driveway, next to and behind the McGraw Ceramics Studio.
Video auditions are accepted if you cannot make an in person audition.
For video submission and deadline information, or any other questions, please contact Director Jason R. Mellin.
What:
Auditioners will be asked to prepare two different readings of the monologue below. Memorization is not factored into the audition, sides will be provided. All actors will perform once, then asked to perform their second reading after the other actors have performed their first. The director may give direction to one or both of the interpretations. Because we are incorporating dance elements in this show, we will want to see you move. There will be some exercises to give the casting board an idea of how you move and work around one another. Please wear clothes and shoes in which you feel comfortable moving around. The board will be looking for a willingness to take risks, ability to portray different characters through physical and vocal choices, confidence in movement, and felicity with adopting direction. There are no callbacks planned, so please be prepared to stay until the end of your selected audition time.
Please be aware that this show tackles mature themes. Auditioners are encouraged to research the show in advance and present any concerns to the director to ensure a safe working environment.
Who:
We are looking for 10-14 performers to embody around 90 different roles. We are looking for a variety of ages (no younger than high school), ethnicities, gender expressions, body types, and performance styles. This is a show about transformation, and everyone will play multiple roles that push the boundaries of their acting experience. We are especially seeking performers willing to experiment, learn, risk, and play. Some roles require experience with singing and dance.
Why:
“Metamorphoses is a fantasia of Greek myth, interpreting ancient tales through a dozen different lenses, whether classic high tragedy or modern slapstick, through poetry and dance and song, as fables or as Freudian psychoanalysis. All these stories share the motif of transformation: How grief, fear, hatred, desire, and above all else, love, change our bodies and our whole lives. I’m looking for actors who also appreciate varied styles, bold choices, and a love of the process of acting, that ritual of transformation we inherited from the Greeks.”
