Cape Cod Artist Carl Lopes took inspiration for Dance of the Titans from his Cape Verdean heritage and its contribution to the world-wide whaling industry of the 1800's. He combined geometric motifs influenced by African design and tradition with his signature materials of acrylic paints, holographic papers, glass beads, and high gloss resin.
Carl Lopes is highly regarded and recognized for his artistic contributions, community engagement, and uplifting the importance of cultural heritages. He has received awards from Pratt Institute, the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, the Cape Cod NAACP, and the United States Embassy of Cape Verde. His mixed-material paintings are in the collection of the Cahoon Museum of American Art, the Cape Cod Museum of Art, the Zion Union Heritage Museum, and numerous private collections.
