Volunteer Opportunities
As you can see below, there are many ways your volunteer skills can be utilized!
Please check off what areas are of interest to you, and fill out the form below. You will not be limited to these areas alone. You will be notified of all opportunities as the need arises, in the form of a monthly email and sign-up, via our Volunteer Hub.
There are detailed descriptions of the volunteer opportunities below the form.
Usher/Greeter
Our greeters and ushers volunteer at our theater and gallery events, welcoming patrons and assisting at the door taking tickets and helping get our audience seated for performances, and assist with cleanup.
Costumes
Assist designers in shopping for and creating costumes! Sewing skills range from basic to expert. Most work is done in the 4 weeks prior to the opening of each show.
Building
If you have experience with building sets for theater productions, we would love to hear from you! We are looking for people to work on building sets occasionally by joining a crew of skilled carpenters and handy-people. This is not a regular job and we usually call on people who can be available in a few days’ notice. Experience is required.
Set Painting and Finishing
Come join us as we prepare sets for our theater productions. Volunteers will assist with painting and finishing sets and props. The scope of the production will dictate the need and level of skill required. We may not know how many set painters and finishers needed until a few weeks before a show opens and often the call for volunteers will not have a long lead time.
Lighting/Film Technician
Occasionally, we need help with setting up and running lights for concerts and special events, or running films for screenings on the projection system. Opportunities arise only a few times a year, and hands-on training is provided to learn the light board.
Prop Specialist
We occasionally need help with creating or procuring props for our theater productions. Some of our larger productions may need assistance in building props and specialty set pieces, and sometimes we need help sourcing a specific hard-to-find item needed for a show.
Backstage Specialist
We are sometimes looking for an extra set of hands to help backstage or in the dressing rooms during our theater productions. This position can include a variety of show-specific tasks. Tasks may include helping with costume changes, assisting with props, monitoring stage door, general cast assistance, as well as other responsibilities. Volunteer would need to be available during show hours.
Art Bus
The Art Bus is a retrofitted school bus classroom that “pops-up” outdoors at local schools and community events to increase access to hands-on creative experiences. Art Bus volunteers help with setting up and putting away art materials and activities, assisting students with their artmaking projects, and taking photos of events.
*Please note volunteering with the Art Bus requires the completion of a mandatory 3 hour orientation. Click here to learn more.
Classroom Assistant
Volunteer classroom assistants are needed to help teachers who have a high enrollment during the summer months, especially for kids' classes. No teaching experience is necessary—just another set of hands and an interest in education. And there are year-round opportunities through CapeCodCAN for classroom assistants with experience in Special Education and Inclusion.
Administrative Assistant (Ongoing)
Our Education department is always in need of some administrative help. Specific needs involve data entry work and online research for grant applications. Other administrative and clerical tasks may also be needed.
Publicity
Help us spread the word about all the wonderful, exciting events happening at the Cotuit Center for the Arts! We would like volunteers to support the publicity committee as it builds a strong position of recognition and support throughout each of the communities on the Cape. Activities include distribution of posters, educational brochures and art exhibit flyers to appropriate locations; development and support of exhibits/displays for key events in the area; creation and distribution of key messages through social media; and interfacing with local organizations within each community to increase recognition and support. Work typically is requested on a monthly basis.
Membership Recruiting
Our members and volunteers are what keep the Center alive and thriving! We would love help with recruiting new members and organizing member benefits. Come be an “ambassador” for the Center!
Volunteer Recruiting
Do you have experience in volunteer recruitment and management? We are looking for a few more people to join our team and help CCftA strengthen its Volunteer Corps. Assist with recruiting new volunteers through mailings, calling on appropriate groups and helping at volunteer meetings.
Facilities and Grounds Maintenance
Calling all willing hands! Are you a Do-It-Yourselfer? Are you handy? Got skills? Able to paint or handle small repair jobs? Do you like taking on a project by yourself or as part of a team? Join our group and help with projects large and small, on your schedule.
Landscaping
Do you have a green thumb? Do you enjoy gardening? The Center needs you! Help us improve the Center’s appearance as part of our Garden Club. The Center campus has several perennial gardens that need TLC and regular watering and maintenance. Work with other volunteers who share a love of gardening and nature.
Sponsorships
Do you have experience with fundraising and obtaining outside sponsors for a non-profit organization? We need you! We are looking to expand our reach within the Cape Cod community in order to keep our vibrant art center growing. We are looking for dynamic individuals who can help us to plan and execute our fundraising goals, with a specific focus on growing our cadre of sponsors. Former sales experience would be a plus!
Committee Involvement
In addition to all the wonderful roles that our volunteers fill to keep our Center running smoothly and looking great, we also have various committees that help support the Center’s mission and numerous activities. Some examples are Membership, Facilities, and Sponsorship. We are always looking for enthusiastic and talented people who might want to serve on a committee as part of the volunteer experience. It’s a great way to assist the Center that we all love, both with current initiatives as well as moving forward into the future. If being on a committee is of interest to you, let us know! We would love to talk to you!
