Class Description
In naked raku, a prepared ceramic piece is coated with a layer of slip, which acts as a temporary resist. The piece is fired and removed from the kiln while glowing hot, then placed in combustible materials. Smoke travels through cracks in the slip and marks the clay beneath. After cooling, the slip layer is removed to reveal the finished surface. The piece is left “naked,” with no glaze covering the clay.
