Class Description
Discover the unpredictable beauty of Obvara raku, a centuries old firing technique known for its smoky, organic surfaces. In this hands on class, Lois Hirschberg will guide participants through the distinctive Obvara process. Heated ceramic pieces are immersed in a fermented mixture of flour, yeast, sugar, and water, then quickly cooled to create striking patterns in shades of black, cream, brown, and soft gray.
Every firing produces a completely unique result, with surfaces that may resemble stone, smoke, weathered earth, or ancient markings. This class is perfect for ceramic artists who enjoy experimentation, natural textures, and the element of surprise.
